I need to let you know about a bereavement

We understand that dealing with the loss of a loved one is a difficult time, and we want to try and make the process of letting us know as straightforward as we can.

If you need to inform us of a bereavement, please click the button below, so you can register for our bereavement notification portal.

Once registered you’ll be able to complete the forms to help us process the information.

Complete your registration here

When you register on the portal we’ll need:

  • your first and last name

  • your email address

After you’ve entered your details, we’ll send you a registration email to your inbox. Please follow the instructions in the email to complete your registration for the portal.

We’ll need:

  • our member’s membership reference or National Insurance number, full name and date of birth

  • the date the member died

  • details of any spouse, civil partner or financially dependent individuals, if they were not receiving a surviving dependant’s pension from us

  • the name, address, telephone number (and email address if possible) of the person who we can talk with in respect of the death – for example, spouse, solicitor or executor.

Once you’ve completed the form and given us all the details we need, we’ll stop any pension payments we currently make. Then we’ll write to the person you nominated on the form:

  • with the information we need for tax purposes

  • to ask for the original death certificate

  • to provide any further forms we need completing to claim any survivor’s benefits.

We’ll keep in touch with the person you nominated until benefits, if any, are to be paid. Then we’ll normally talk directly with those who’ll be receiving the benefits, unless there are special circumstances.

If a pension was being paid to the member, they are only due the payments up until the date they died. Payments made after this date will need to be paid back to the pension Scheme.

Your GP or your local religious or community group is often a good place to start looking for support in dealing with bereavement. There are also a number of organisations that offer support to help you deal with your grief:
